Lady GaGa to Recieve Fashion Award

Over the past year Lady Gaga has wowed us with her outlandish costumes, and now she's set to be rewarded for her sartorial efforts.

At the Accessories Council Excellence Awards in New York next Monday she will be given the Stylemaker Award in recognition of the extraordinary array of accessories that she has been spotted in, and, to seal her fashion credentials, the award will be presented by Marc Jacobs. The two have become firm friends in recent months and Lady Gaga performed at the Marc Jacobs after-show party in September.

From the orbital hat by London milliner Nasir Mazhar to her dominatrix-style leather mask, Lady Gaga is certainly no wallflower when it comes to her fashion choices – we can't wait to see what costume she chooses to wear to the ceremony.

On what the world of la mode did for her:
"Fashion saved my life. It was complete liberation… it made me feel powerful, ambitious and much more resilient."
On her version of beauty:
"We all need an image that screams, 'I'm an individual!' I think Jennifer Aniston is beautiful — she’s gorgeous — but I prefer to look interesting rather than pretty.

Pop Justice Reviews The Fame Monster

PopJustice.com: Right – so we've heard Lady Gaga's The Fame Monster and it's a pretty astonishing piece of work. Lyrically, sonically, melodically and conceptually it's right up there with its predecessor The Fame, with a definite feel of things moving in a new direction.

We know a lot of you are thinking that this is just a cash-in reissue of The Fame with a few tracks chucked on. It's not that at all – this is a collection of songs in its own right. When you buy this you will not be buying The Fame again in order to get at a couple of extra songs – you'll be buying a new album which just so happens to have a copy of The Fame in the same box.

If it helps make sense of things, imagine purchasing The Fame Monster 2-disc set then throwing the The Fame CD away. In fact that is what you should actually do when you get this. Throw The Fame out of the window. The Fame Monster is a real album with its own personality.

In brief: Eight tracks. Four potential singles. No shit songs. Here's a track by track:

Bad Romance
"Poker Face" reinvented. Can you believe that some people have said that this song sounds too much like "Poker Face"? As if anything could sound too much like one of the best songs of 2008/09? It would be like saying 'the problem with this restaurant is that the food is too nice and too reasonably priced', or 'the problem with this hat is that it makes me look too attractive'. Now imagine wearing an amazing hat in the world's best restaurant. THAT IS WHAT THIS SONG IS LIKE.

Alejandro
It sounds like this. And by 'this' we mean an amazing romantic post-Italotronic triumph.

Monster
Opens with snatches of dialogue ('Don't call me Gaga', 'I've never seen one like that before', 'Don't look at me like that') then launches into a story of Gaga pulling a "wolf in disguise". The chorus is a big chant of "that boy is a monster, that boy is a monster" and there are some 'Just Dance'-isms along the way too. There's a great breakdown for the middle eight: "I wanna just dance but he took me home instead, uh-oh there was a monster in my bed, we French kissed on a subway train, he tore my clothes right off, he ate my heart and then he ate my brain".

So Happy I Could Die
A mid-tempo number with some Tiesto-esque ravey bits, some references to The Act Of Masturbation, and a chorus lyric "happy in the club with a bottle of red wine, stars in our eyes 'cos we're having a good time, so happy I could die". Not a single but an important part of the whole 'Fame Monster' thing.

Speechless
At one point this was a big piano ballad but since Ron Fair's production has been added it's more along the lines of a 'Starman' or an 'All The Young Dudes'-type affair. This is the track about Gaga's father and it seems to be written from Gaga's mother's point of view. By the time the second verse comes around there seem to be strong hints of booze ("I can't believe how you looked at me with your Johnnie Walker eyes", "raise a glass to mend all the broken hearts" etc) so it seems this is the 'Fear Of Alcohol Monster' Gaga previously mentioned. The chorus is "I'll never talk again, oh boy you've left me speechless / I'll never love again, oh friend you've left me speechless" and one of the best bits finds Gaga singing "after all the boys and the girls that we've been through, would you give it all up if I promised boy to you that I'll never talk again, and I'll never love again, I'll never write a song, or even sing along…" This is a massive, massive ballad which doesn't sound like anything else you've heard from Lady Gaga and could do for her what 'Beautiful' did for Christina Aguilera. At the very least, it's a good lighters-aloft live anthem.

Dance In The Dark
The chorus to this is amazing – imagine RedOne to the next level with a massive emotionally-charged synth riff chucked in along the way. Actually the everything to this is amazing, it opens with the words "silicone, saline, poison, inject me" and the arms-aloft, four-to-the-floor chorus is a chant of "baby loves to dance in the dark, cos when he's looking she falls apart." There's another line about "she looks good but her boyfriend says she's a tramp" – it seems to be about women who are marginalised or who are in (mentally?) abusive relationships. We may have totally missed the point of this song, and if so 'apols' in advance.
Best bit: an almost pant-wettingly excellent, 'Vogue'-style rap breakdown in which Gaga lets rip: "Marilyn, Judy, Sylvia, tell them how you feel girls [something we couldn't quite make out] hot like Liberace, find your freedom in the music, find your Jesus, find your cutie, you will never fall apart Diana, you're still in our hearts, never let you fall apart, together we'll dance in the dark". AMAZING.

Telephone
A song about being pestered by someone on the phone when you're trying to have a dance in a nitespot. It's a little bit like Gwen's 'What You Waiting For?' meets Timbaland's 'The Way I Are' meets about fifty other things. "I cannot text you with a drink in my hand," Gaga notes at one point. The structure's quite exciting: quiet harpy intro / "kinda busy, k-kinda busy" bridge as beat kicks in / verse / chorus ("stop calling, stop calling, I don't wanna talk any more") / postchorus bit / 'The Way I Are'-style rap / Beyonce rap ("should have left my phone at home cos this is a disaster") / breakdown verse / "kinda busy" bridge / chorus / another bit / 'The Way I Are' rap bit / extra 'My Humps'-esque (but not really) "my telephone! My telephone!" outro, then "we're sorry, the number you have reached is not in service" operator message. We love Beyonce insisting that some bellend on the other end of the phone won't make her get her coat any faster. Bonus fact: The guest vocalist on this was going to be someone else, but then the guest vocalist wanted to put the song on her own greatest hits album, so Lady Gaga made alternative arrangements.

Teeth
A wobbly, stompy, bouncy marching song. Opens with a "don't want no money, just want your sex" line, includes lots of chanting of "Show me your teeth! Show me your teeth!", and a foray into Black Betty territory.

That's all from one listen – this album has loads more to give up from repeated plays and we can't wait to get stuck in properly. "Monster" and "Bad Romance" have elements of "Just Dance" and "Poker Face" but these seem like knowing nods back in the direction of "The Fame", while other songs – "Dance In The Dark", "Teeth" hint at what lies ahead for the next, third Lady Gaga album.

Lady GaGa's Inspiring Short Fashion Film

As Lady-GaGa.Net put it: "An inspiring collaboration between Lady Gaga and fashion filmmaker Kathryn Ferguson, displaying a very different side to this year’s most exhilarating pop phenomenon. Shot during rehearsals for her London shows, this intimate short film showcases Gaga’s love of some of fashion’s most pioneering names, as well as a show-stopping piano composition created by Gaga uniquely for this collaboration."

Lady GaGa Reveals Plans For 'The Monster Ball'

Can you talk about the songs on The Fame Monster?
This is a new album. It's eight songs, I could have put more songs on it, but I just decided not to because I thought they fit beautifully together. I'm really excited about all my new work, and I've been going through some really wonderful times and some really rough times all at once, so it's been really good for my artistry. On the re-release, I wrote this song called "Speechless," which I think is the best song I've ever written. It's about my dad, it's a really beautiful ballad. It's piano-driven, and there's no beat on it, it's all live instruments. I produced it with Ron Fair, so we did a full live orchestra, recorded everything with live drums, live guitar and bass with me playing piano. We got that really organic, delicious feeling.

What was the thinking behind The Monster Ball?
I wanted to really put together a show that would be the most beautiful, expensive-looking, delicious show, but that my fans wouldn't have to pay a ton of money to come see. So we're playing a few nights in a row. I've got super loyal fans, so I feel this tremendous obligation to take care of them.

You said it was a pop-electro opera.
Yeah. It's the first ever, so it's really whatever I want it to be. The theatrics and story elements are in the style of an opera. Imagine if you could take the sets of an opera, which are very grand and very beautiful, and put them through a pop-electro lens. The design of the show is very, very forward, very, very innovative. I've been thinking about ways to play with the shape of this stage and change the way that we watch things. So what I've done is I've designed a stage with Haus of Gaga that is essentially a frame with forced perspective, and the frame is put inside the stage.

It's got kind of a triangular inset, like a diamond, and everywhere we're playing, the dimensions fit this box that I'm bringing, so it's this giant box that fits into every show. So no matter where I go, my fans get the same experience. So often you go into theaters and there's ambient light flying in from all sorts of places, and the audience is in different spots, and the stage is in different shapes and lengths and widths and depths, so this is a way for me to control all the light and all of the different elements of the show. The theme of the show is evolution.

How will that theme express itself?
Each one of these songs on my album represents a different demon that I've faced in myself, so the music is much more personal. I don't write about fame or money at all on this new record. So we talked about monsters and how, I believe, that innately we're all born with the monsters already inside of us — I guess in Christianity they call it original sin — the prospect that we will, at some point, sin in our lives, and we will, at some point, have to face our own demons, and they're already inside of us. So we talked about growth, and that led us into this kind of scientific space, and we started talking about evolution and the evolution of humanity and how we begin as one thing, and we become another.

This is the first time you've had the resources to do a tour the way you wanted. You've visualized ambitious things before, but you probably weren't able to do it to this extent.
No, I couldn't, but there was one major ingredient that was missing, and that's my fans. Now, I have the inspiration of my fans, and I know what they want. I think there's a lot of artists that are very self-serving, but I'm not one of them. When I create and make music, I make music that my fans want to hear. My record label didn't want to put out that photo that's my album cover, with the brown hair.

They found it too confusing?
It was World War III. They were like, "It's confusing, it's too dark, you look gothic, it's not pop," and I said, "You don't know what pop is, because everyone was telling me I wasn't pop last year, and now look — so don't tell me what pop is, I know what pop is." It's funny, because I fought and fought and fought, and I actually ended up having two covers, because I wanted to do this yin and yang presentation with the covers. When I go to see what my fans are saying, I go onto GagaDaily — they see the cover and say, "I don't really like the blonde one, but the brown one is fucking sick". They love it, and I know what they love, so I make it for them, I don't care what anybody else wants.

Were there elements of the Fame Kills Tour with Kanye West that were going to be in The Monster Ball?
I'm certainly inspired by what we were doing, but I made a decision based on integrity not to use any of the things that we had designed together.

So it's the great lost tour, then.
Yeah, probably. I guess that's kind of perfectly epic, isn't it, though? Isn't that exactly what's supposed to happen? It just wasn't the right timing. I don't want to embellish on it too much, because I want to respect Kanye's privacy. But we just had our own reasons. We're real friends, real friends can make decisions like that, and we wanted to keep the momentum going in terms of pop music staying innovative with hip-hop and R&B, and we really wanted to do it, and it just wasn't the right time. But who's to say what will happen in the future?

Is this tour going to include the band and dancers we saw on SNL?
It's going to be much bigger, but I love my guys. My dancers that are with me now have been with me for two years. I just shot a music video for "Bad Romance" and the Haus of Gaga did the whole art direction for it. We worked with Francis Lawrence, he's a movie director, and he almost never does music videos anymore, and I'm really impressed, even with myself — it's so amazing. That's another thing that keeps me going, when you have moments of adversity and challenge in your life, you have to dig deep. It's my music and my sadness that runs into one another and mutates and gives me the ability to make new things.

Have you already begun to plan the show's fashion?
The fashion, certainly, is going to be another exploration and another level from where we were with the Fame Ball. The theme of monsters is certainly going to be an influence, as well as the theme of evolution and change. It's going to be a truly artistic experience that is going to take the form of the greatest post-apocalyptic house party that you've ever been to.

R.I.P. Rumpus, The 'Poker Face' Great Dane

Sad news to report this afternoon: Rumpus, the Harlequin Great Dane best known for his role in Lady Gaga's iconic "Poker Face" video, died earlier this month after taking a hike (an actual one, not the metaphoric kind) in his hometown of Los Angeles. He was just five years old.

According to TMZ, Rumpus' death was unexpected. His owner, Suzzane Kelleher-Duckett, told the Web site that the award-winning show dog appeared to be in good health, and showed no signs of injury after taking a lengthy hike. As such, an autopsy was performed on his body and results are expected soon.

Rumpus appeared poolside (along with his mother, Lava) in Gaga's Video Music Award-nominated "Poker Face" video, and also made cameos in her "Love Game," "Paparazzi" and "Eh Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say)" clips, too. TMZ reported that he was also scheduled to appear in Gaga's upcoming "Bad Romance" video, but that role will now go to Lava instead.

According to the Web site run by Rumpus' breeder, Pacific Coast Harlequins, he enjoyed "hiking and trail riding … hit[ting] the trails 2-6 miles every day, rain or shine," and had recently filmed a commercial for Cesar dog food. He had also just sired a litter of six puppies with a fellow champion Dane named Gracie.

Those who worked with Rumpus recalled a star-crossed dog whose unbridled energy and free spirit made him a much sought-after talent. But those same eccentricities also came with a price. Just last month, "Poker Face" director Ray Kay told MTV News that he and Rumpus had a volatile relationship during their shoot, one that threatened to shut down the production entirely. But that, when the dog was on, there was no one better to work with. Or, you know, something like that.

Jason DeRulo to Tour With GaGa

Lady GaGa will have another face joining her on the road for her upcoming Monster Ball Tour. In addition to Kid Cudi, Gaga will have "Whatcha Say" singer Jason Derulo on the bill for a select portion of the dates. Derulo spilled the beans to MTV News on Tuesday (October 20).

The tour kicks off on November 27 in Montreal, but Derulo will be supporting Gaga and Cudi starting on December 28 and will continue for the remaining dates on the tour, which wraps on January 21 in New York.

"I'm going on tour with Lady Gaga," he told MTV News. "I haven't spoken to her, no, but I'm on all the dates for that month."

Gaga, like Derulo, got her start as a songwriter before finding superstardom as a solo artist. So it almost seems fitting that a budding pop star would support the singer on her concert trek.

"I am a big Gaga fan," he said. "I was talking about being on that tour for a pretty long time and it's amazing that it actually just fell in my lap like that. I can't wait ... I'm super excited. I'm amped!"

As for any possible onstage collaborations, Derulo admits that he doesn't have a preference of Gaga songs he'd like to perform with the pop queen if asked. But he does have a Jason Derulo song that he thinks Gaga would be perfect for.

"That would be amazing. Maybe a Jason Derulo song," he said. "Absolutely, 'Love Hangover' would be perfect for her to join me on."

Multiple sources confirm that Beyoncé and Lady Gaga are shooting a music video for a remix of "Video Phone" together! An insider reveals exclusively to Life&Style:

Lady Gaga and Beyoncé were working on the video together at a studio in NYC. Everything on the set was being kept very hush-hush, and security was extremely tight. In the video Beyoncé wears a feathered dress. And of course Lady Gaga wears something wild. The fashion is sick and insane.

Madonna: "I See Myself In Lady Gaga"

Madonna mentioned Lady Gaga in her newest interview for Rolling Stone:

"I see myself in Lady Gaga. When I saw her, she didnt have a lot of money for her production. She's got holes in her fishnets, and there's mistakes everywhere. It was kind of a mess, but I can see that she has that it factor. It's nice to see that at a raw stage."

The show will take place on November 22 in Los Angeles

Lady GaGa to Take Part in Museum Exhibit

Lady Gaga has always maintained that her concerts are performance art. And so in her lace-veiled view, it's entirely logical that she'd be performing at Museum of Contemporary Art's 30th anniversary gala in L.A. on November 14 with the Bolshoi Ballet and artist Francesco Vezzoli.

Vezzoli says of the upcoming performance: "They basically offered me a social ritual as a blank canvas to be turned into an artwork. Some artists might see this as a nightmare, but for me it’s like a surreal dream, and in true surreal style I wanted to mix together the youngest and most daring pop icon, Lady GaGa, with the oldest and most classically trained group of dancers in the world, the Bolshoi Ballet.

The performance will take many references from Le Bal (1935), the only one of the Ballets Russes ever designed by Balanchine in collaboration with an Italian artist, the Surrealist Giorgio de Chirico. The output will be flawlessly imperfect and unpredictable, just like any overambitious happening should be.”

Lady Gaga and dancers from the Bolshoi Ballet will be performing the world premiere of "Speechless", a song from The Fame Monster.

Lady GaGa Quote of the Day

Here's today's Lady GaGa quote of the day:

"I wrote every piece on the road - no songs about money, no songs about fame. I wrote it for my fans, so I wrote everything in between."

- Lady GaGa on The Fame: Monster tracks

New Information About The Fame: Monster

Lady Gaga announced today that she will release The Fame Monster, a re-package of her 4 million-selling album The Fame. The album will include the entire breakthrough album The Fame, along with eight entirely new songs. The Fame Monster, deals with the seamier side of fame, as experienced by Gaga over the course of her last history-making year. The new version will be released on November 24, 2009.

Says Lady Gaga, "On my re-release The Fame Monster, I wrote about everything I didn't write on The Fame. While traveling the world for two years, I've encountered several monsters, each represented by a different song on the new record: my 'Fear of Sex Monster,' my 'Fear of Alcohol Monster,' my 'Fear of Love Monster,' my 'Fear of Death Monster,' my 'Fear of Loneliness Monster,' etc."

"I spent a lot of nights in Eastern Europe, and this album is a pop experimentation with industrial/Goth beats, 90's dance melodies, an obsession with the lyrical genius of 80's melancholic pop, and the runway. I wrote while watching muted fashion shows and I am compelled to say my music was scored for them. I also composed a ballad for the album, 'Speechless,' a song for my father, and it's my favorite work of all. I wrote every piece on the road – no songs about money, no songs about fame. I wrote it for my fans, so I wrote everything in between."

The first club-banging single, the RedOne-produced "Bad Romance," will be released in early November. Other collaborators on the new tracks include Teddy Riley, Rodney Jerkins, Ron Fair and Fernando Garibay.

Lady GaGa Scores Fourth Top Ten

Lady Gaga's "Paparazzi" pushes 11-7 to become her fourth top 10 on Billboard Pop Songs chart. She is just the fifth female in the chart's archives to collect at least four top 10s from a debut domestic album, joining Alanis Morissette, Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani and Fergie.

New Old GaGa Single 'No Way' Leaked

No Way is one of the many demos Lady GaGa recorded with producer, Fernando Garibay, that were shopped around to many artists, such as Beyonce and Britney Spears. It has the same sound as "Quicksand", that was re-recorded by Britney for Circus, because they were produced by the same producer and around the same time. This will NOT be on The Fame: Monster.

Lady GaGa: 'Get Your Ass to D.C. For Gay Rights'

Celebrity support for the National Equality March is pretty widespread, from Charlize Theron to Dustin Lance Black to Annette Benning to the NFL's Scott Fujita. Lady Gaga, perhaps the denmother of the LGBT population, added her name to that list, and she did so with a message for everyone: "Get your ass to D.C."

And while that might not be dinner party language, it's a pretty darn good call for people to get together to fight for equal rights. Here's LG:

I was thinking to myself, 'If everyone in this room were to go and bring 10 friends -- which I don't think is a lot to ask because you all have lots of friends -- just from this one night, there would be 10,000 more people marching....' I really believe in this cause, and as a woman in pop music, I think that this is really an important weekend, and it's not a f*cking joke. So, get your asses to DC and wear something fabulous.

And putting her money where her mouth is, Lady Gaga had a sign up sheet at a concert this weekend recruiting folks for buses to D.C. for the National Equality March.

Update: Here's a video of her promoting the march:

Lady GaGa Takes Us Behind the Scenes in Interview Magazine

This past summer, while winding down her Fame Ball world tour in Japan, Lady Gaga, a.k.a. 23-year-old -Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, gave us an exclusive look at a side of the Haus of Gaga that most fans never get to see: her life offstage, which, unsurprisingly, is just as wildly insane as her life on stage. Here, we present Gaga (with handwritten notes by the Lady herself), as she takes Tokyo and Osaka, gets inked (twice) and then prepares for an S&M scene with the legendary Japanese photographer Araki. The Gaga epidemic has clearly gone global.
