The Meaning of the Mysterious Tattoo

As we mentioned earlier, Lady GaGa had recently gotten a new tattoo. No one was able to agree on what they thought the tattoo was. Now, we know.

The curling script is on GaGa's left arm and is a souvenir from a midnight session at a tattoo parlor in Osaka, Japan.

It is a quote in German from the Lady's "favorite philosopher," poet Rainer Maria Rilke.

Lady GaGa stated, "It says 'In the deepest hour of the night, confess to yourself that you would die if you were forbidden to write. And look deep into your heart where it spreads its roots, the answer, and ask yourself, must I write?'"
